The 9 inch stock out a ford truck with 31 splines is much stronger than 8.8 out of similar truck (i.e Ford full size trucks) ,its the reason why Full size bronco guys swap out the 8.8 for the 9 inch axle. But the 9 inch is harder to find with 31 spline and big bearing than an 8.8.
